American Postal Machine Co., "Boston, Mass., Oct 31, 1894", Type D1(H) flag machine cancel, bold impression on 2¢ green entire to local address, Very Fine and choice, this is the 'grandfather' of all us flag cancels (Langford CV $2,500).

THE FIRST DAY OF USE OF ANY US FLAG MACHINE CANCEL, THIS BEING THE EARLIEST STRIKE.

Four examples of the October 31st 1894 first day date are known, the example here with 6:00PM time being the earliest, two with 7:45PM, and one 11:30PM.

The "Sevier, S.C." type A14 machine cancel was changed to Greenville S.C. with "Sevier Branch" flag die about September 1, 1917.
