1881, 1¢ gray blue, block of 88, strip of 6 and strip of 3, all manuscript canceled on oversize linen lined cover (block on reverse) to "The Collector of the Port, New York" with printed "From United States Consulate General, Shanghai, China", lower left with "Fifty two Invoices" docketing, reverse with light "U.S. Postal Agency, Shanghai" oval date stamp and three strikes of red "San Francisco, Cal., Paid All, Mar 10" transit cds's, circular "3-10-88" receiving handstamp tying block; cover chipping and wear, stamps with usual flaws and some separation in block mostly due to Consulate wax seals with possible stamp removed from cover between strips, F.-V.F. for this.Scott Nos. 206 Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

Carl Myers in the late 1880's created the Balloon Farm, a Victorian mansion on a hill south of Frankfort overlooking the Mohawk Valley. It housed one of the most successful private experiments in early aeronautics ever launched.
