Washington Kitsap County Postal History, several hundred cards and covers dating from the 1880's until present day, small towns, DPO's, unusual names, usages, some with letters, branches and substations, WWII, censored, towns such as Creosote (yuk!), Naval Torpedo Station, Chico, Winslow (not Arizona), Rolliingbay, Annapolis (not Maryland), Gorst, Fragaria, Indianola, all are sleeved, numerous various cancels for many of the towns, lots of duplicates, yet still room to continue and expand.

Western Cover Balance, mix of townmarks and express items; towns with Arizona including a run of Tombstone postmarks, express including Hinckley & Co.'s Express usage, Truman & Co. frank cover and a useful mix of Wells, Fargo & Co. entires, etc.; worth a look.

Lot 1516    

British Open Mail Rate Cover Balance, of 13 covers and a couple fronts to France, includes three stampless usages, various 4¢, 6¢ & 10¢ rates including two 10¢ usages (one 1869 Pictorial & other 10¢ Banknote) with "Short Paid" markings on reverse (Phantom rate period), includes a 6¢ rate usage to France forwarded to England with scarce red British Foreign handstamp markings; condition a little varied, inspect.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Foreign Mail Cover Balance, of 50 covers virtually all used during the Banknote period; nice array of usages and destinations including various usages to England including G.B. 1d domestic forwarding and a 4d forwarding to Paris, B.F. Stevens, Despatch Agent use, various usages to France with a nice mix of frankings, various rates to Germany, other usages including Italy, Norway & Sweden; cover varies, worth careful inspection.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

New York Foreign Mail Cover Balance, of 45 covers mostly from the Banknote issue period; includes a few 1869 Pictorial issues usages including two 10¢ usages to Germany and a 15¢ + 2¢ two singles on mourning cover to Italy with one 2¢ replaced, other mostly with the fancy geometric types with usages to Europe including Germany, France, Italy, Holland, England, usage to Belgium with star cancel (however 6¢ has been appropriately replaced) and Austria, couple allover ad design covers, nice range of frankings including an unusual 3¢ entire uprated with a cut-out 2¢ indicia, Supplementary Mail use but with stamp replaced, etc.; condition varies, worth review.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.

Transatlantic Mail Cover Balance, 1848-73, group of eight better usages; includes (Retaliatory Rates) 1848 New York, N.Y. to Lisbon, Portugal a rare transatlantic cover to Portugal avoiding the retaliatory fee, 1857 Lisbon, Portugal to New York, N.Y. scarce example of this 63¢ Falmouth packet rate, 1844 New York, N.Y. to Madrid, Spain carried by Cunard Line Caledonia (Retaliatory Rates) 1848 New York, N.Y. to Cadiz, Spain, 1850 Boston, Mass. to Cadiz, Spain scarce British mail rate, 1854 Boston, Mass. to Malaga, Spain carried by Collins Line Pacific, 1873 New Orleans, La. to Barcelona, Spain closed mail bag through England and Belgium, and 1850 Lisbon, Portugal to New York, N.Y. carried by Collins Line America; all ex-R. Winter.
