This proof was signed by Edmund Oldham, the engraver of the initial design by the National Bank Note Co. The tiny minor constant flaws are present here, plus some additional flaws not carried further:
a. Break in left upright of middle "E" of "REGISTERED".
b. Left frame line broken at lower center.

William Gerlach demonstrated in his Collectors Club article that constant flaws on some of the clichés in this proof are also to be found on used seals. At the same time, Barlow's research shows that at least two clichés in this proof also occur in panes from the three by ten plate, which proves this 3x3 pane is a National Bank Note Company product.

George Grinnell, well known for his "find" of Hawaiian Missionary stamps, formed one of the first comprehensive collections of official seals. This pane is one of two known bearing notations by Grinnell.
