Svts, H(enr)y Degetau & Loop, St. Thomas 3/1 '54" and scarce "Foreign Letter Office, S^t Thomas" oval, entire with manuscript "Due 4" on front to complete the rate, Very Fine and attractive.

Merchants in St. Thomas maintained the Letter Office from 1846 to 1860. Mail was bagged and shipped by private packets to avoid high charges of inconvenient schedules.
