Zanzibar, 1895, 2c ultramarine "State of N. Africa", envelope entire essays, three entires on different sizes with manuscript "Size 4½", "Size 8¼" and "Size 13" designations, mounted on two pages; one inscribed with "Nov 18th 1895, Appendix C (contd), Specimens for the 2½ Anna Envelopes" and other "The size 13 and size 8¼ are the same sizes and of the same quality as selected by the Foreign Office of the British East Africa Protectorate"; some light block toning effecting portions of entires (but not indicias), F.-V.F. and unique.Estimate $300 - 400.
These essay were submitted by the De la Rue to the Crown Agent for the 1896 Sultan Seyyid Hamed-bin-Thwain envelopes to show color and sizes. The first part of Appendix C dealt with post cards while the latter part with registration envelopes.
